"If you would contract, you must first expand.

If you would weaken, you must first strengthen.

If you would overthrow, first you must rise up.

If you would take, first you must give."

Lao Tzu

Dalai Lama If we have a positive mental attitude, then even when surrounded by hostility, we shall not lack inner peace. On the other hand, if our mental attitude is more negative, influenced by fear, suspicion, helplessness, or self-loathing, then even when surrounded by our best friends, in a nice atmosphere and comfortable surroundings, we shall not be happy.

DIRECTOR - CINDY MASTRY

Cindy Mastry was introduced to yoga by her Grandmother Ann Ree Colton in the late 60’s, and began practicing at an early age, first with Lilias Folan on TV and with Vishnudevananda’s classic yoga text on her own. Cindy has a background in dance and also worked in the fitness industry on and off since the late seventies, always maintaining a home yoga practice.

Today, focused only on Yoga, Cindy originally founded the studio and now is a co-owner of the studio. She is a registered yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance (E-RYT) trained in classical Ashtanga Yoga at Mount Madonna Institute in California, home of the globally respected teacher and spiritual leader Baba Hari Dass who inspires “teach to learn.” Cindy has also studied with Kate Potter, Sharon Gannon and David Life, Larry Schultz, Gary Kraftsow, Jon Kest, Bryan Kest, Judith Lassiter and Tias Little. She is currently enrolled in Georg Feuerstein's 800 hour History and Philosophy of Yoga Teacher Training.

Her style blends knowledge learned from all her teachers to encourage practicing the principles of yoga with self awareness and balance, without competitiveness in order to reach the underlying vibrational life force energy and true essence of yoga. Cindy is an instructor for the Exalted Warrior Foundation which is a yoga program designed for wounded warriors in military and veteran hospital facilities. Cindy can also be seen in numerous instructional videos on various websites including Lance Armstrong’s Livestong.com, Expert Village, EHow, and Mom & Me.

JEN LOWERY

Jen co-owns the studio with Cindy. Jen is immensely grateful to have had the opportunity to complete her teacher training with master teacher, Jonny Kest. She also has studied extensively with Jonny’s brother Bryan, Shiva Rea, David Williams, Steve Ross and others. She continues to take teachers trainings and retreats several times a year to deepen both her practice and her teaching.

When Jen began seeking to further her yoga study, she discovered that most training programs weren’t set up to go into great detail about yoga philosophy. So, she sought out the nation’s leading yoga philosopher, Georg Feuerstein, and participated in his 800 hour Yoga Traditions Philosophy course. She believes this intense philosophical study gives her a strong foundation from which to continue to grow her own personal practice and a deeper understanding of the principles and history behind her chosen spiritual path.

Jen loves to teach a strong, sweaty, and spiritual yoga class while at the same time remembering not to take the whole thing so damn seriously! She believes that having fun on the mat is much more important that than the position of our fingertips and toes, and that we should use our yoga as a path to strengthen our joy, gratitude, and compassion above everything else. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with getting a nice yoga butt in the process! Yoga has awesome side effects!

BETH COLE

Beth is one of the most experienced yoga teachers in the area and an Acupuncture Physician. She has been practicing yoga for 34 years and has a daily ashtanga practice. Beth completed Primary Series Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training with David Swenson and Tim Miller, Second Series Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training with David Swenson and Power Yoga Teacher Training with Bryan Kest.   She practiced in India and the United States with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois before he passed away. Today Beth is dedicated to her karma yoga practice, spending time in both Africa and Haiti helping people who are suffering from trauma.

KRISHNA BHARTI (ANIL PRASAD)

Anil has studied yoga and meditation since he was a small boy in India. Born in New Delhi, he was instructed in yoga the traditional way by learning to recite the ancient yoga texts by heart. As a late teen he became affiliated with Osho’s association and studied and meditated at his Ashram. He spent much of his time meditating in caves in Himalayan mountains. He came to the US about 6 years ago, where he has been donating his services, hoping to spread yoga through his many different meditation techniques.

BILL BILODEAU

Bill was a student of Gurani Anjali of Yoga Anand Ashram in Amityville, N.Y., for twenty five years, where he was an instructor of hatha yoga and facilitator of meditation. Bill has read and formally studied The Bhagavad Gita, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the Upanishads, and other texts supportive of the classical Ashtanga Yoga. The eight limb path and yogic approach to self-realization was central to the study and lifestyle at the ashram. Bill finds these texts, as so many others have in the past, of major inspirational significance, one that can effectively transmit the sacred teaching in the moment of reading.
