Foundations of Yoga Workshop Saturday, Jan 8, 2011 2:00pm-5:00pm $15.00

This workshop is designed to introduce beginning students to the basics of a yoga practice and is also perfect for more experienced students looking to build a strong foundation. We’ll start the workshop with a short discussion. We’ll answer questions such as is yoga a religion? (short answer – No!!) Why is yoga good for stress? How can I use yoga to heal my back injury or other injury? Is it possible to lose weight with yoga? (YES!!) What type of class is right for me? What’s behind the philosophy? What’s that weird om chant all about? And, of course, where can I find the best yoga pants? (ok- maybe we’ll save that one for after class). Then we will break down the basic poses found in most yoga classes. We’ll tackle that darn down dog, discuss cobra vs. up dog, explore chaturanga dandasana - when do you do it? When do you skip it? What the heck is a chaturanga? What’s the proper form? (hint – it’s not flopping down straight to your belly!) We’ll go on to examine forward folds, twists, triangle pose, meditation and more. If you have never done yoga before, then this is for you. If you have been doing yoga for years, but have often wondered, “Am I doing this right?” then this is for you too. It’s a great opportunity to get off to a strong start or to deepen your current practice.

BE STILL AND MOVE YOUR CHI…A YIN YOGA WORKSHOP

Dates: Saturday, April 24, 2010
& Sunday, April 25, 2010

Time: 1:30pm – 6:00pm

Instructor: Emy

Price: $35 per day / $55 for both days

Yin Yoga is a practice wherein one holds mostly seated postures for 3 to 5 minutes. It focuses strongly on the joints of the hips, pelvis and lower back. It is a practice of stillness and quiet, designed to stretch the connective tissue of the joints, awaken and move chi (energy) along the meridians (energy channels) of the body and bring one closer to their true inner nature. During a Yin practice we take time to relax into ourselves and cultivate a nondefensive attitude toward sensations, physical, emotional and mental. A Yin practice will rejuvenate and relax you, giving you increased clarity of mind and leaving you with the feeling that you have had a massage.

During this workshop we will focus on some of the meridian channels that run the length of the body. We will dedicate time to explore the physical, energetic, emotional and mental qualities of each yin/yang organ meridian pair before we begin an in depth Yin series for each one. Practicing Yin yoga will enrich the quality of chi flowing through the meridians. The unhurried attitude combined with the ability to feel attentive to our body reduces stress levels and allows our system to discharge excess tensions. Yin yoga enhances the quality and fluid motion of chi. Join us…be still and move your chi.

For more information call 727-644-4554. Advanced registration not necessary but appreciated!
